BUSINESS UNIT CONTROLLER
WHO:
Our client is a high tech global manufacturerer of electro-optic components used in the detection and amplification of ions, electrons, and photons. The organization is focused on mission-critical components for a variety of applications such as medical devices, digital cameras, mass spectrometry, space exploration, and many others.
WHAT:
Our client hired us to find a skilled financial professional to work closely with the President/General Manager to develop and implement the division’s operational strategy. Experience in an international, multi-business-unit environment was critical, as was experience partnering with leadership on operational and strategic issues. The individual also needed the ability to provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
LOCATION:
Based in Worcester Country Massachusetts, onsite 4 days per week, 25% travel Domestic and International.
OPPORTUNITY:
The client was looking for a person who had experience with mergers and acquisitions’ target diligence and post-acquisition integration. In addition, he or she must have demonstrated the ability to remain objective and independent as a guardian of good business practices while maintaining the trust of leadership, operations, and engineering to troubleshoot and manage the risks inherent in growth initiatives. Finally, the individual needed to be able to contribute to the vision and implementation of strategic plans, capital investments, acquisitions, restructuring projects, and critical ad-hoc opportunities.
OUTCOME:
We developed target lists of high-tech manufacturing firms in Massachusetts and Connecticut and commenced a broad screening process to identify potential candidates. Initial responses were limited largely due to the location and onsite work requirement. We interviewed numerous candidates in search of the necessary financial skills set and the ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision based on solid financial data. We presented the best qualified candidates to the client for interviews, which were followed by additional interviews with the French HQ leadership. They selected an individual who has the unusual combination of deep financial analysis experience with a global high-tech firm and the desire to think strategically yet creatively about driving the business’ finances. This was the third search that TalentBench successfully completed for our client, and we look forward to the opportunity to work with them again as they expand their business and make further acquisitions.
